"In and of itself, an error is neither good nor bad. First of all, for us an error is “merely” a deviation from what we expect. And this is exactly where the artists in our exhibition come into play: they are the ones who often purposely challenge deviations and/or errors. What does it mean, if we’re no longer able to recognize the deviation at all? If we just can’t understand any more that this is an error which we could tolerate or not? To what extent can this error be checked at all in the digital world? But aren’t we the ones who ultimately determine the order, rules, values and standards of a society and culture? Proceeding from these central questions, four guiding principles started to crystallize, which will be further illuminated in the context of an error: irritation, order, value and control." —from ARS ELECTRONICA

This is a rebranding project of the festival ERROR: ART OF IMPERFECTION.The festival has  a  unique subject matter of “error” where they invite artists and technicians to explore errors in different areas such as music, art, exhibition, and technology. The festival doesn't hide errors. They ask experts and audiences to explore errors by fully embracing and welcoming the error. The main insight of the festival as the visual director was to communicate the idea of error in a literal way both visually and ideologically, specifically with the use of glitches and vellum paper. The fractured images and wide color spectrum of glitches allow the audience to be more exposed to the error and eventually appreciate the beauty of error.

 BOOK DESIGN
ㄴ The book of ERROR: ART OF IMPERFECTION is designed with the idea of "imperfection" that makes "perfection". The layers of vellum paper seem "perfect" as a whole, but by opening each layer the viewer then realizes fractured language and glitches which portray the idea of error that is found when we actually restructure the system. The book illustrates a unique sense of sequence like that of a scavenger hunt to find errors.
